Abraham Formally Establishes
Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve

(Washington) U.S. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham today signed letters of notification to Congress that formally establish the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve, a two million barrel reserve of government owned heating oil to be used in cases of extreme circumstances of weather or threat to life. Is
oil heating efficient?
Studies
have shown that oil heat is the
most efficient
fuel and remains the best
value. Oil-heated homes heat up faster, burn less fuel, and just feel more
comfortable. Heating
oil creates the hottest flame of any other heating fuel. It's
400 degrees hotter than natural gas.
Because it's so hot your home heats up faster, and feels more
comfortable. The home shown here is 2200 sq. ft. and requires only 350
gallons of oil a year to heat it comfortably. New oil equipment has an efficiency rating of about 84%.
While Oil and Gas equipment is made with ratings in the high 90s, they are
not recommended because of maintenance requirements.
How
clean is oil heat?
Modern Oil
heat burns as clean
as any fuel available. New oil burners 
burn
at near zero levels
of smoke discharge. When
properly maintained
and burning at peak efficiency,
modern high
tech systems produce no
soot whatsoever. The U.S.
Department of energy has stated that new residential oil burners are one
of the cleanest combustion sources in the country! and there's no
question about oil being the safest
of all heating fuels.
Is
oil heat safe?
We have all seen the BIG nose warning
ads about what to do if you smell gas. Well you will never see a
warning about heating oil. Oil
heat doesn't explode. And when comparing Carbon Dioxide or Monoxide deaths, oil is 8 times safer
than gas.
